Propulsion Lab

 

Different equipments of worth Rs. 20 lakhs were procured for Department of Mechanical  Engineering, RTU, Kota under Propulsion Lab. The laboratory facilitates various experiments related to combustion, multiphase flow, propulsion and thermal engineering. The students can work with many flow, pressure and temperature measuring sensors/associated data acquisition systems of industrial standards for their experiments. Performance characterization on a ramjet engine test rig, gas turbine test rig, axial flow fan etc., are available in this laboratory. Compressible flow test rig permits study and characterization of flow through turbo machine rotors and subsonic nozzles. Performance analysis of two stage reciprocating air compressor and centrifugal blower etc., are some of the fundamental experiments possible in this lab.

Flight simulation Lab

The newly established Flight Simulator lab at Department of Mechanical Engineering at UD-RTU, Kota houses a state of the art simulator of the Airbus A320, one of the world’s most popular narrow body aircraft. The cockpit canopy was constructed inhouse and is equipped with everything to give a real world feel. It has advanced avionics computers which are a direct derivative of the systems used on a real A320. The instrument panel has two LCD panels which display the Primary Flight Display and Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor.  The control pedestal has 3D printed thrust levers and various other toggles. The overhead panel too has many switches to make the experience tangible. The software works on real flight physics and has ability to downlink a data feed allowing for research opportunities on Aircraft Stability, Control & Guidance. The database has been fed with information of all major airports in the world and even has modifiable weather. A projector has been installed to provide visual feed of the outside which one would see while flying. All-in-all the simulator will give impetus to the students to learn and experiment more on aircraft flying and related activities.
